News Bureau and San Francisco

Sharing a street with companies such as Twitter and Uber, and with views spanning the Bay Bridge, CNBC recently launched their first location in San Francisco. Designed by BAM, the project is exemplary of the move toward a multimedia approach, allowing for both broadcast and digital content to be integrated into the newsroom, including two indoor studios and one outdoor studio.

Revitalized + Repositioned

LA Business Journal features a BAM designed project, HATCH, as front page news for its unique adaptive reuse approach to support a burgeoning biotech cluster. A collaboration between BAM, Alhambra Agora, and ASG Real Estate, HATCH is a landmark example of how design and real estate foster a community of innovation. In the same week, The Urban Land Institute’s magazine Urbanland highlighted HATCH as a key element in cultivating and expanding the LA bioscience industry.

BAM Lifescience Expertise

What makes for a successful design of a life science facility? ULI Los Angeles and the LA Bioscience Hub arranged a panel of experts to answer this question by discussing the forces shaping bioscience design. Brian Spence, Founding Principal at BAM Architecture Studio, was the sole architect on the panel. Mr. Spence used the Case Study model to articulate how to take advantage of these trends. First, he identified the trends creating problems for scientists, R&D businesses and real estate developers. Then, he presented one real world design solution.

A publication that features exciting people and businesses in LA, the article covers what sparked Brian's passion for architecture, the founding of BAM and the firm's projects since branching out into Los Angeles.

CRMI Opens

The Center for Reproductive Medicine is a prominent and growing ambulatory practice within Weill Cornell Medicine. As Weill Cornell turns their attention to expanding their ambulatory presence in the New York region, BAM was engaged to program, provide site selection services and design the new medical office facility. To maximize the efficiency of the large floor plates, BAM was tasked with developing a design that combines multiple departments in an existing office building repositioned to support medical office use. Crain's New York Business highlights the Ronald O. Perelman and Claudia Cohen Center for Reproductive Medicine as an example of Weill Cornell's growth in New York.

Collaborating with St. Vincent's Medical Center

Collaborating with St. Vincent's Medical Center, BAM designed a high-end hybrid operating room for their Bridgeport hospital. Marrying hospitality with hard science resulted in the patient entering into an EP lab outfitted with relaxing, spa-level amenities. Upon discovering that surgery is needed, the space is instantly transformed into a sterile operating room. The capacity to examine and perform surgery in one room resulted in reduced patient stress, the ability for doctors to provide more efficient treatment, and the hospital to gain higher patient throughput and profitability. A win-win-win for all parties involved.
